Artisanal gelato

In pregnancy: Caution While breastfeeding: Safe

Rare, but serious if it happens

Why

Almost always safe (Italian gelaterias use pasteurised industrial bases), but avoid the liqueur flavours (whisky, rum, marsala) and ask whether they use fresh or pasteurised eggs.

It changes after the birth

You can eat this again while breastfeeding: the pregnancy-specific risks (listeria, toxoplasmosis, salmonella) no longer apply after birth. Keep normal food hygiene.

Others in this group

General information, not medical advice. It follows the public guidance for pregnancy and breastfeeding, and it cannot know your own history: for anything about your health or your baby's, the person to ask is your midwife or doctor.
