Frozen berries

In pregnancy: Only if… While breastfeeding: Only if…

Rare, but serious if it happens

What makes it safe

If you eat them uncooked, boil them for 2 minutes first

Why

Frozen berries have been linked to cases of hepatitis A: if you use them uncooked (smoothies, yoghurt, no-bake desserts), boil them for 2 minutes first. In cakes, compotes and cooked jams they are fine. Fresh berries should be washed well under running water.

Instead

  • Fresh berries washed under running water
  • Cooked berry compote
  • Frozen berries boiled for 2 minutes
