Pâté (liver, fish)

In pregnancy: Never While breastfeeding: Safe

Rare, but serious if it happens

Why

Liver pâté: high vitamin A. Fish/meat pâtés even if cooked: listeria risk. Avoid all pâtés in pregnancy.

It changes after the birth

You can eat this again while breastfeeding: the pregnancy-specific risks (listeria, toxoplasmosis, salmonella) no longer apply after birth. Keep normal food hygiene.

Instead

  • Hummus
  • Olive tapenade
  • Chickpea or lentil spread
