Cheese

Roquefort

In pregnancy: Only if… While breastfeeding: Safe

Rare, but serious if it happens

What makes it safe

Only cooked, until piping hot

Why

Blue cheese made from raw sheep's milk: double risk (mould + unpasteurised milk). Avoid.

It changes after the birth

You can eat this again while breastfeeding: the pregnancy-specific risks (listeria, toxoplasmosis, salmonella) no longer apply after birth. Keep normal food hygiene.

Instead

  • Roquefort melted, on a pizza or into a steaming risotto
  • Parmigiano Reggiano
  • Stracchino
