Cured meats

Salami

In pregnancy: Only if… While breastfeeding: Safe

Rare, but serious if it happens

What makes it safe

Only fully cooked (e.g. on pizza)

Why

Raw cured sausage: toxoplasmosis and listeria risk. Avoid, even if well-aged. Thorough cooking makes it safe.

It changes after the birth

You can eat this again while breastfeeding: the pregnancy-specific risks (listeria, toxoplasmosis, salmonella) no longer apply after birth. Keep normal food hygiene.

Instead

  • Well-cooked mortadella
  • Cooked ham
