Fish

Sushi (with raw fish)

In pregnancy: Only if… While breastfeeding: Safe

Rare, but serious if it happens

What makes it safe

Only with cooked fish or vegetables

Why

Raw fish: risk of listeria, anisakis and other parasites. Avoid it. Sushi with cooked fish (tempura prawn, teriyaki salmon) or with vegetables only is safe.

It changes after the birth

You can eat this again while breastfeeding: the pregnancy-specific risks (listeria, toxoplasmosis, salmonella) no longer apply after birth. Keep normal food hygiene.

Instead

  • Vegetarian sushi (avocado, cucumber)
  • Tempura prawn sushi
  • Teriyaki salmon sushi
