Meat

Rare or medium steak

In pregnancy: Only if… While breastfeeding: Safe

Rare, but serious if it happens

What makes it safe

Always ask for it well done

Why

Red meat in the centre: toxoplasmosis risk (especially if not already immune). ALWAYS order it well-done.

It changes after the birth

You can eat this again while breastfeeding: the pregnancy-specific risks (listeria, toxoplasmosis, salmonella) no longer apply after birth. Keep normal food hygiene.

Instead

  • Well-done steak
  • Well-done burger
  • Cooked chicken or turkey
