Sprouts (alfalfa, soybean, radish)

In pregnancy: Only if… While breastfeeding: Safe

Rare, but serious if it happens

What makes it safe

Only cooked, pan-fried

Why

Grow in warm, moist environment: high salmonella and E. coli risk, even if 'organic'. Avoid raw. Cooked (stir-fried) they are safe.

It changes after the birth

You can eat this again while breastfeeding: the pregnancy-specific risks (listeria, toxoplasmosis, salmonella) no longer apply after birth. Keep normal food hygiene.

Instead

  • Sprouts sautéed in the pan
  • Cooked vegetables
  • Pulse soup
