Duck, goose and quail eggs

In pregnancy: Only if… While breastfeeding: Safe

Rare, but serious if it happens

What makes it safe

Only with firm yolk and white

Why

Salmonella risk: in pregnancy duck, goose and quail eggs should only be eaten well cooked, with firm yolk and white. No soft-boiled or raw quail eggs as nibbles.

It changes after the birth

You can eat this again while breastfeeding: the pregnancy-specific risks (listeria, toxoplasmosis, salmonella) no longer apply after birth. Keep normal food hygiene.

Instead

  • Hard-boiled quail eggs
  • Well-cooked omelette
  • Hard-boiled hen's eggs
